Welcome

Welcome to Ekal Vidyalaya Washington DC Chapter. We believe that you dont need to be a Gandhi or a Mandela to start changing the world, you can do that by contributing little by little, and start making the change. For us, no change is big or small.

Ekal Vidyalayas are single-teacher schools spreading the light of education in rural and urban India. The movement was started in early 1986 by followers of Swami Vivekananda. He mentioned in his writings about providing education to children who can not get education by conventional mediums.

Ekal Vidyalaya was registered as a 501(c)(3) charitable trust in United States in 1999. Today Ekal Vidyalaya stands at 27,041 schools teaching 753,123 students in all states of India.
