Title: My Vision of Ekal School Visits

Presenter: Dr. Sanjay Bhatt

Affiliation: Executive Vice President of EKAL USA

Abstract

Introduction

Get ready for the 'Ekal Journey!'  This talk will be based on two assumptions:
1. It is necessary to collect and analyze data regarding
Ekal Vidyalaya's impact and success.
2.  It is necessary to introduce
youth to the Ekal Vidyalaya concept.

Project Details

Beginning in summer of 2010, 8-12 youth between the age of 18 and 30 will embark on a 3-4 week journey through the Ekal Vidyalaya villages; each youth will be assigned to a particular region (Madhya Pradesh vs.Himachal Pradesh vs. Tamil Nadu) and a selected Pramukh.  Together, the two-person teams will survey and collect data regarding the Ekal Vidyalaya. In the first and final week, the teams will reform to discuss development topics ranging from India's development to women's rights to primary education.

Results

The expected results are two-fold: first, to collect and analyze data regarding the Ekal Vidyalaya.  Data will be analyzed and a write-up white paper began in India. On return to the US, a final draft will be written up, reviewed by the EC and BOD distributed to the public. In addition, 8-12 young individuals will be open to the concept of the EVF and India's development.

Conclusion

It is understood that the best way to experience the EV concept is first-hand experience.  The best first experience is that which involves a vested interest and time in local development. It is for this reason the "Ekal Journey" will be launched in the summer of 2010.

Stay tuned for details!
